The Rapture of the Church

The Rapture of the Church
The word ‘rapture’ is one that many Christians have come across at some time or another. However, it is a sad fact that the subject is rarely discussed or explained from the pulpit, leaving many confused and uncertain as to what, and who, to believe. It would seem that many people prefer to ignore what they see as controversial subjects rather than search for the truth. However, Jesus Himself rebuked the Pharisees for not discerning the signs of the times (Matthew 16:3); He also told His disciples not to be deceived. But unless we know what is true, how can we know if we are being led astray? The Apostle Paul, in his letters, urges Christians ‘not to be ignorant’, and time and time again we are warned in scripture that false teachers will come into the church, teaching the things that people want to hear (2 Timothy 4:3), but not teaching the truth. Not surprisingly, we read that many will follow them (2 Peter 2:2). In this timely study, at the beginning of a new year, pastor Barry takes a look at what should be one of the most talked-about topics by Christians! The apostle Paul calls this our blessed hope! He says this should be a great comfort to us, and actually compares the certainty of the coming Rapture to the Resurrection! If we believe the Resurrection is a real historical event – and there is abundant evidence to show it is – then, Paul says, we can be just as certain the Rapture will take place in the near future! The Rapture is far more than just a doctrinal issue. It is (or should be) the hope of the Church. It is the moment when our heavenly Bridegroom comes back to claim His bride, purchased with His own blood. Now, more than ever, we must lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us, we must run with endurance the race set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2). As we begin a new year, let us forget those things which are behind and reach forward to those things which are ahead, pressing toward the goal for the prize of the ‘upward call’ – the Rapture of the Church – in Christ Jesus. We are not of this world, our citizenship is in heaven, that is out real home! It is from Heaven we should be eagerly awaiting our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, that it may be conformed to His glorious body. Yes! we are destined to get new ‘don’t get sick, don’t get weary, don’t get fat!’ bodies, fit for eternity. If you spend any time exercising this year, let it first be exercising yourself unto Godliness! May this study encourage you and serve as a timely reminder to get ready! A bride always want’s to look her best for the wedding day – ours is just around the corner!
