Chapters 15 and 16
20-02-2017
This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 30th August 2015 is part of our series of studies through the book of Second Kings – the 12th book in the Bible.
In this verse by verse study of chapters 15 & 16 we see the contrast between those who merely do the right things externally, and those whose heart is right internally! We see the danger of pride and having confidence in your own ability apart from the grace of God.
We also see the tragic end of the reign of king Uzziah of Judah, who decided to make a sacrificial offering (even though this was against the Law of Moses as he wasn’t from the tribe of Levi!); and as if this wasn’t enough, he has a pagan alter built for him to offer up his pagan sacrifices.
As for the northern kingdom, we see Assyria make its first incursion into Israel, and then to lead away many of the nation into captivity, as had been warned by Moses would be the result of disobedience. There are many people in the world today who think they are getting away with it; little do they realise they are almost out of time, and judgment is coming!
May you be blessed and challenged as you listen to this study.
