Chapters 11 and 12
This study, taught by our pastor, Barry Forder, at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 16th August 2015 is part of our series of studies through the Second Book of Kings, the 12th book in the Bible. In this verse by verse study of chapters 11 & 12 we see two unsung heroes, Jehosheba, the daughter of king Jorham of Judah (and granddaughter of Jehoshaphat), and Jehoiada the priest. Although hardly known, they both play a pivotal part in God’s plan of redemption through their obedience. The wicked Queen Athaliah (daughter of Ahab and Jezebel) had seized the opportunity to take the throne following the death of her son, king Ahaziah, at the hand of Jehu (king of the northern kingdom of Israel) by killing all of the royal seed – the descendants of David. God had sworn to David that he would always have a descendant to sit on the throne. In an act that could have cost her her life, Jehosheba (whose name means ‘Jehovah has sworn’) takes and hides the 1-year old Joash – heir to the throne. Six years later Jehoiada the priest calls all the rulers of hundreds and captains of the guard and commissions them to restore the rightful king (now just 7 years old) to the throne of Judah. May you be blessed and challenged as you listen to this study. You can listen to the audio on this web page, or save it for later listening.
