Chapter 4

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 21st February 2016 is the 7th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. As we have previously noted, the book of Revelation is divided up into 3 sections as explained by Jesus Himself in Chapter 1 verse 19: The things that John had seen – i.e. the vision of Jesus in chapter one; the things that are – the things that existed at that time, namely the seven churches that have been the focus of Chapters 2 & 3, which also depict the seven eras of the church throughout history, and finally… The things that shall be ‘after these things’ – the things that will occur after the churches; literally, after the church age, once the Church has been taken out of this world. Jesus made a promise to His disciples in John 14:1-3 that He was going to prepare a place for them in His Father’s house – Heaven – and He would one day come again and take us from earth to that place. From numerous scriptures, it seems this will occur before the time of Tribulation, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, in an event often referred to as the Rapture. (1 Corinthians 15:52 / 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). The division of the book of Revelation, as noted above, supports this notion of a ‘pre-tribulation’ Rapture, where the Church will be taken to Heaven before the commencement of the Tribulation (also known as the ‘Day of the LORD’). Isaiah (Isaiah 13:9-11), Jeremiah (Jeremiah 46:10) and Daniel (Daniel 7:13-14) all underscore that the Tribulation will be a time of God’s judgment, when He pours out His wrath on this unbelieving and Christ-rejecting world. It therefore follows that believers will not be here for this time of God’s wrath because we have already been declared ‘not guilty’ because of Christ’s completed work on the cross, where His blood was shed as payment in full for our sin. God’s wrath fell on His Son at Calvary (Isaiah 53:10), it will not fall again on the Church He has purchased. So, just as with Lot, who was removed from Sodom before the judgment fell (see Genesis 18:25), in like manor the Church will be removed – Raptured – prior to the Tribulation, just as Paul said: “For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:9).</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>**Apologies for the quality of the audio for this study – we experienced technical problems that we were unable to resolve** This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 24th January 2016 is the 3rd in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. In this study we begin looking at the letters to the seven churches in Revelation 2 & 3. The letters were from Jesus to the Pastor’s of seven churches that existed at the end of the 1st century in Asia Minor (modern day Turkey). The word translated ‘Angel’ in the introduction to each of the 7 letters is the Greek word ‘Angelos’ which simply means ‘Messenger’. As you begin to study the letters it becomes clear that the recipient was not intended to be an ‘Angelic being’, and of course, Jesus would not need to pass a letter to John for him to then deliver to an Angelic being, nor would the encouragements or rebukes within these letters be given to an Angelic being! We did note that the same applied in chapter 1 where the ‘Angel’ mentioned in verse 1 is later in Revelation shown to be ‘of thy brethren the prophets’ and not an Angelic being (see Rev 19:10 / Rev 22:9).</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 24th April 2016 is the 14th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. What do the names dragon, serpent, beast, accuser & deceiver all have in common? They are all names given to mankind’s greatest enemy – Satan. Satan, often simply called ‘the Devil’ used to be known as Lucifer, which means ‘light bearer’ (Isaiah 14:12). According to Ezekiel 28, he was once a stunningly beautiful super-angel, possibly even the highest ranking angel of all. He had the privilege of being in charge of the worship in Heaven, and literally had musical instruments built into his body (Ezek 28:13). He had unrestricted access before the throne of God. So how (you might be thinking) could this ‘anointed cherubim’ end up becoming the embodiment of evil and the most deadly enemy man has ever faced?</itunes:summary>

Chapter 3

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 14th February 2016 is the 6th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. In chapters 2 & 3 of Revelation we find seven letters that Jesus Himself writes to seven churches that existed in Asia Minor in the first century. As we noted last week, these letters were intended to have at least four levels of meaning and application. They were letters to seven churches that existed at that time, and Jesus was addressing specific concerns in those churches. They are also letters for each and every church, for the issues addressed in each church are experienced by all churches, and the instruction Jesus gives all do well to take heed of. Thirdly, the letters are written to you personally! If you have ears that is! This is worth thinking about for a moment… it means that here are seven letters written by Jesus to you – and to all believers. This means there is a very personal application to the instructions Jesus gives here. Finally, each successive letter lays out the prophetic history of the Church from the first century to the time of the Rapture, and culminating in the final church age that will give way to a one world church – the subject of Revelation 17 & 18. In this study we look at the letters Jesus sent to the churches at Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. As well as having local applications, personal encouragement and admonition, these letters take us prophetically from the time of the Reformation, around 1517 A.D. to the Rapture, and then into the Tribulation.</itunes:summary>

Chapter 18

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 5th June 2016 is the 19th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. Babylon was place where almost all false religion began. It is like a corrupt tree whose branches have spread throughout the whole world, into every culture, yet retaining a likeness to the root. To accomplish its ends – that of sowing huge spiritual confusion – Satan has clothed the heart of this false religious system with the Roman Catholic church (as recorded in Revelation 17 – see Pastors blog : http://www.calvaryportsmouth.co.uk/2016/05/the-woman-the-beast/Pastors blog). In other words, the Roman Catholic church has been the cloak for this Satanic attempt to keep mankind from the truth, and will ultimately be the catalyst that will unite all world religions under one banner. The governments of the world will initially actively support and encourage this open displace of tolerance and supposed unity, but this will give this religious system enormous political power. Revelation 18 records how God will move the 10 kings of the revived Roman empire’, to rise up and cast her off their back and destroy her. Thus God’s judgement as recorded in Isaiah 14& 15 and Jeremiah 50&51 will be poured out on this religious deception that has been responsible for the death of multitudes of both Jews and followers of Jesus. Once removed, the world will be poised for Antichrist to take centre stage and the False Prophet will cause all men to worship Antichrist. May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word! To aid your personal study, the Powerpoint slides used in this teaching are available for download here, and a verse-by-verse text commentary of Revelation Chapter 18 is also available in the Pastor’s Blog section of this web site entitled: “The Destruction of Deception” Every blessing, Pastor Barry.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 6th March 2016 is the 9th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. In this study we begin to look at ‘the beginning of sorrows’. This is a phrase given to us by Jesus in Matthew 24, when He was explaining to the disciples the events that would take place immediately before His return. Much of the church today tends to ignore prophecy, or at least, put it to one side, deeming it to be ‘difficult’, ‘hard to understand’ or even divisive! In ‘The Purpose Driven Life’, a book embraced by many churches both in the UK and in America, pastor Rick Warren made the following incredible statement: “When the disciples wanted to talk about prophecy, Jesus quickly switched the conversation to evangelism. He said in essence. “The details of my return are none of your business.” – yes, pastor Rick says the details of Jesus’ return are not for us to worry our little heads over! Err…. Excuse me! In the words of an old Christian song “If the Bible don’t back it then it seems quite clear, perhaps it was the Devil who whispered in your ear!” Seems to me like pastor Rick and those who subscribe to views like this should spend less time on motivations pep talks and get back to what the Bible actually says!</itunes:summary>

Chapter 15

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 15th May 2016 is the 17th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. Following on from the parenthetical chapters (11-14) we now rejoin the time-line where we left off, at the mid-point of the Tribulation. Antichrist’s world Government is now established, Israel has fled to the wilderness of Edom (modern day Jordan) to escape the world-wide persecution – and seemingly the world government will have no jurisdiction there. The remaining believers (those who have converted since chapter 6) have come under extreme persecution, and the false religious system that has dominated and manipulated the world for so long has been destroyed by Antichrist’s 10 ‘kings’. This is Satan’s moment of glory, when the world has all but eradicated the God of the Bible. But the situation is very reminiscent of Adonijah’s claiming the title to the throne of Israel in 1 Kings. Although Solomon had been promised by his father (David) to become the king, we read “Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him” (1 Kings 1:5). Adonijah’s ego trip was brought to a sudden end and Solomon was crowned king. With that in mind, remember where we left off in chapter 10? A mighty angel, with one foot on the land and one in the sea, declared that time was up! (Rev 10:6), and in chapter 11 we had the great declaration that “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever” (Rev 11:!5). As with Adonijah, Satan will have his tenure rudely interrupted when the Rightful King returns to establish the Throne of David. In preparation for that, the earth will now be purged and made ready for the Coming King! This is one of the most anticipated moments in Scripture; the great day of His wrath has come! May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word! To aid your personal study, the Powerpoint slides used in this teaching are available for download here, and a verse-by-verse text commentary of Revelation Chapter 15 & 16 is also available in the Pastor’s Blog section of this web site entitled: “The Great Tribulation” Every blessing, Pastor Barry.</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 3rd May 2016 is the 23rd in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. In the second half of Chapter 20 we find three significant events: Firstly we see Satan released from his prison to deceive the nations one last time. This will ultimately bring about his final defeat. Secondly we witness the end of this order of things, as everything we currently know will be dissolved; all that we think about as ‘real’ will be gone in an instant. That will lead on to the third, and without doubt one of the greatest events, not just in this chapter, but in all of time and space – Judgment Day! This is the day people speak of (usually without knowing anything about it) when all will stand before God and be judged. There are many right now who think they will have a few things to say to ‘the Man upstairs’! Many who have said, “Well, if I were God…”. Needless to say, when actually standing before the God of the Universe, the Creator of all things, in all His majesty and glory, surrounded by a myriad angelic beings declaring His greatness, the scoffer, the fool and the simple person alike will be utterly speechless! May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word!
The Lambs Book of Life

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>The Bible is utterly unique. Patrick Henry said: “The Bible is worth all the other books that have ever been printed”, and John Wesley stated: “This book had to be written by one of three people: good men, bad men or God. It couldn’t have been written by good men because they said it was inspired by the revelation of God. Good men don’t lie and deceive. It couldn’t have been written by bad men because bad men would not write something that would condemn themselves. It leaves only one conclusion… It was given by divine inspiration of God.” After a lifetime of studying the Bible, Dr Chuck Missler made 2 critical discoveries: Firstly, that the Bible is an “Integrated message system”. We have 66 books, by 40 authors, written over a period of 2000 years, yet we discover that every detail is anticipated by deliberate, skillful, design! The second startling discover is that this incredible message system provably has its origin from outside our time domain. In this study, pastor Barry gives a wealth of evidence to support these discoveries, and then looks at the implication of this for each one of us. Could the Bible itself be the Lamb’s book of Life? Could your name be hidden within its pages? May you blessed and encouraged by this study!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 20th March 2016 is the 11th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. After all the intensity and tremendous worship we have seen from chapters 4-7, with the great chorus of praise from the great multitude, the elders, the angels and the four living creatures, everything now comes to a screeching halt. The suspense and anticipation of this moment is tangible. Back in chapter 7 we saw an angel holding back the judgments that we now see unveiled through the sounding of the 7 trumpets. The reason was that the 144,000 Jews had to be sealed (granted supernatural protection) before these trumpets were to sound. In chapter 8 we another earthquake followed by one third of the trees, grass, marine life, ships in the ocean, all destroyed. In chapter 9 we see demonic locusts released from the bottomless pit to cause terror on the earth. As terrifying as is, we should remember that this is still the ‘beginning of sorrows’, the Great Tribulation is still to come. This highlights God’s great mercy, because all of the judgments in these chapters are in measure, they are restrained. God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9), God does not delight in the death of the wicked, but wants them to turn to Him (Ezekiel 33:11). So, if you are a Christian, these chapters should stir you to be the light and salt you have been called to be; to preach the Word, in season and out of season, because the people standing next you in the queue at the supermarket, or at your work place, may well be the people who end up experiencing the first hand effects of these judgments. If you are not a Christian, as the Bible says, today is the day of salvation. Don’t leave it a moment longer. if you want to know more, please contact us. May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word! To aid your personal study, the Powerpoint slides used in this teaching are available for download here, and a verse-by-verse text commentary of Revelation Chapter 8 & 9 is also available in the Pastor’s Blog section of this web site entitled “The Sound of Silence” Every blessing, Pastor Barry.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 10th June 2016 is the 24th & penultimate session in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. Most of us can identify with the feeling of security and comfort that comes from arriving home after some time away, or at the end of a long journey. It’s nice to be in our own home where we can just relax and put our feet up. In this chapter we will be introduced to our eternal home – our real home; this world is not our home, we are just pilgrims here. The place that will be described in this chapter is what we have been created for. 1 Cor 2:9-10 tells us: “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” Although only a glimpse is given, God reveals just enough to wet our appetites and convince us that this is reality and not a dream, albeit a reality beyond our wildest dreams. It should also help us to get things into perspective, as we look at this life and the problems that we may be facing, we should remember that all of this – here and now – is only temporary. All the pain and suffering is not the way that God wants it to be; and when we get to our eternal home all of this present age will be forgotten as God wipes every tear away. It should also make us remember that we should be putting our treasure in heaven and not on the earth. In John 14:3 Jesus told us that He was going to prepare a place for us – now we get to find out what it is like! And believe me, no expense has been spared! To aid your personal study, the Powerpoint slides used in this teaching are available for download here, and a verse-by-verse text commentary of Revelation Chapter 21 is also available in the Pastor’s Blog section of this web site entitled: “The New Jerusalem” Every blessing, Pastor Barry.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 17th April 2016 is the 13th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. Chapter 1 of Revelation gives us our introduction to the book. Chapters 2-3 give us the 7 letters that Jesus Himself writes to the 7 churches in Asia Minor (modern day Turkey). Chapter 4 & 5 show a glimpse of the throne room of heaven, and we see the Lamb take hold of the title dead to the Earth. Then, in preparation for Jesus taking back the Earth which is rightfully His (He was found able & worthy – Rev 5:5), chapters 6-10 (which cover the first three and a half years of the Tribulation) see God give mankind one last chance to repent before the ‘great and notable day of the LORD’ (Acts 2:20). This ‘beginning of sorrows’ is just that; and all has been building to the crescendo that we reached in chapter 10 where the great angels declares that ‘time is up!’. However before we now go onto the events of the Great Tribulation, John is taken back to the beginning of the 7 year period, and given additional information regarding events that will occur during the first three and a half years. In this study we look at the two witnesses God will send to preach from Jerusalem during the first three and a half year period. May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word! To aid your personal study, the Powerpoint slides used in this teaching are available for download here, and a verse-by-verse text commentary of Revelation Chapter 10 is also available in the Pastor’s Blog section of this web site entitled: “The Law and the Prophets – God’s Two Witnesses” Every blessing, Pastor Barry.</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 10th January 2016 is the 1st in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. The book is the Revelation of Jesus. It ‘unveils’ Jesus in all His glory and majesty. Without this book the Bible would not be complete. As Genesis is the book of beginnings, so Revelation is the book of endings. If foretells the end of this order of things – i.e. the way the world is at present. It also foretells the end of Satan’s rule on planet earth and the end of the false religious and political systems of the world. It clearly shows the destiny of the Church, the nation of Israel and of all unbelievers. It ties together all the Old & New Testament prophecies and leads into eternity with Jesus enthroned as the universal KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. There are two books in the Bible that have been more attacked than any other. Genesis, because it is the book of beginnings and exposes Satan as the deceiver of the human race, and predicts that the Saviour will be victorious over him; and Revelation, the last and concluding book because it records in advance his destiny and ultimate defeat. This has led to all kinds of wild and unscriptural ‘interpretations’ of the book, as well as the lie that it is not for today, or that it is too hard to understand. Whilst there is a lot of imagery in Revelation, all of the symbols point to a literal truth and usually this is explained in the book itself. Incredibly, in the 404 verses of this book we have over 800 allusions to the Old Testament. This should help us to see that this book does not stand on its own, but is the culmination of all that has preceded it, the conclusion to God’s great drama that has been played out in time and space. For a list of these Old Testament references see Cosmic Codes by Dr Chuck Missler. In this session we explore the introduction (verses 1-3) and then salutation (verses 4-8), and begin to look at the vision John received whilst a slave of Rome, banished to the Greek island of Patmos. May this study bless you as you grow in the knowledge and grace of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. You can listen to the audio on this web page, or save it for later listening. <itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 8th May 2016 is the 16th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. Chapters 11-14 are parenthetical chapters, that is, they are inserted into the unfolding revelation to give added information. Chapter 14 is a sort of snap-shot view that leads into the last 31/2 years with various events being mentioned that will be explained more fully in the subsequent chapters. Chronologically, this chapter sits at the mid-point of the seven year time of Tribulation, with some of the events that are mentioned taking place at the mid-point itself, and the others starting at the mid-point and carrying on through the last 31/2 years, concluding with the infamous battle of Armageddon when Jesus will return to crush His enemies and establish His kingdom. CHAPTER 14 IS DIVIDED INTO 6 SECTIONS: –The redemption of the 144,000 v1-5 –The everlasting Gospel proclaimed v6-7 –The fall of Babylon v8 –Judgment on those who take the mark v9-11 –Tribulation martyrs v12-13 –Prelude to wrath v14-20 May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word! <itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 17th January 2016 is the 2nd in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. The book begins with the Greek word ‘apokalypsis’ (translated ‘Revelation’), and it’s from this we get our word ‘apocalypse’. Despite it’s modern cataclysmic usage the word actually means ‘unveiling’ and this book ‘unveils’ Jesus in glory and majesty, in a way that had not been seen before, presenting Jesus as KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS There are two books in the Bible that have been more attacked than any other. Genesis, because it is the book of beginnings and exposes Satan as the deceiver of the human race, and predicts that the Saviour will be victorious over him; and Revelation, the last and concluding book because it records in advance his destiny and ultimate defeat. In this session we explore John’s vision of Jesus (verses 10-20), and note eight characteristics that stand out to John as he looks upon the one he had walked with along the shores of Galilee, yet now unveiled before his eyes in majesty and authority and in a way John could never of imagined. We also see the divinely inspired outline for this book that Jesus gives to John in verse 20, where he is told to write the things… –Thou hast seen > Chapter 1 –The things which are > Chapter 2-3 –Which shall be hereafter > Chapter 4-22 May this study bless you as you grow in the knowledge and grace of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Chapter 13

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 1st May 2016 is the 15th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. In this study we look at the last two of seven characters introduced to us in chapters 12 & 13. In chapter twelve we were introduced to the Woman, who we saw was ‘mystical Eve’ carrying the line down through the ages from Eve in the garden of Eden, to Mary. We also saw the Manchild – Jesus Christ who will rule all nations with a rod of iron. Fighting on behalf of Israel we saw the archangel Michael, and in defiance to all that is true and holy we saw the dragon, identified as Satan. The 5th ‘person’ we were introduced to was the ‘saints’ who Satan will turn to attach once Israel is fled for safety and protection in the wilderness of Edom. So that brings us to this chapter, and we are firstly introduced to a beast that John sees coming out of the sea. This beast is to be the final world government of this age, before Jesus returns and ‘puts down all authority and power (1 Cor 15:24). Heading up this final world empire, which will be led by ten ‘kings’, will be the individual we usually call ‘Antichrist’. He is actually referred to by 33 names in the Old Testament and 13 names in the New. The title given in 2nd Thessalonians is ‘The Man of Sin’. From scripture we know that He will be an intellectual genius: Dan 7:20; 8:23; Ezek 28:3. • He will be an oratorical Genius: Dan 7:20; Rev 13:2. • He will be a political genius: Dan 11:21. • He will be a commercial genius: Dan 8:25; Rev 13:17; Ps 52:7; Dan 11:38, 43; Ezek 28:4,5. • He will be a military genius: Dan 8:24; Rev 6:2; Rev 13:4; Isa 14:16. • He will be a governmental genius: Rev 13:1, 2; 17:17. • He will be a religious genius: 2 Thess 2:4 (“Allah”?); Rev 13:3,14,15. See also: Ps 10, 52, 55; Isa 10,11,13,14; Jer 49-51; Zech 5; Rev 18. He will be given Satan’s power and will lead the world into worshiping Satan, and will make war on any who accept Jesus during this time. From verse 11 we are then introduced to our final character, the False Prophet. John sees in his vision a beast coming out of the earth, and this seems to be fitting as this individual appears to have amalgamated all the world’s into a single religion – worship of Satan in the person of Antichrist. The False Prophet will have the power to perform miracles to deceive those who have chosen to make this world their home. As we see in this study, Antichrist will suffer a fatal head wound, but somehow appear to be raised from the dead! This is of course a satanic counterfeit. Satan is a deceiver and will establish a un-holy Trinity at this time. Satan, as he has always wanted to be, in the place of God; Antichrist, taking the honour and worship due to Jesus, and the False Prophet acting in the role of the Holy Spirit, trying to point all people to Antichrist. May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word! <itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 13th March 2016 is the 10th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. Picture the scene: The war is almost over and all the soon-to-be victorious warriors have been air-lifted home. All that remains is for the heavy artillery to launch the final decisive blow on the enemy. However, there are a number of soldiers who had gone AWOL, disobeyed their General’s orders, and as a result had found themselves caught behind enemy lines. The enemy, through defeated, wasn’t going down without a fight and would take as many with him as possible. The experienced General however, wasn’t prepared to lose a single soldier, so an elite specially trained team was put together to go in a rescue those who, albeit through their own fault, had missed the initial evac. The heavy artillery had been instructed not to fire into the danger zone until the rescue team had each been marked with a special marking that would show up under the hi-tech night-vision scanning equipment. This would then afford them the protection they needed whilst going deep into the heart of enemy territory to rescue anyone belonging to the General who would hear the message to escape and take this ‘last ship home’. Welcome to Revelation chapter 7! The battle is almost over, the church have been air-lifted to safety in the greatest evacuation in the history of the world. Yet there were inevitably those who chose to ignore the warning signs, who did not respond to the Gospel when they had chance, but now that the Tribulation has begun, find themselves trapped behind enemy lines. There are many others too who would respond to the Gospel at this point, if only there were a preacher. Enter the 144,000 Jewish evangelists whose role seems to be to reach out to whosoever has ears to hear in Earth’s darkest and final hour. Through their preaching, a great multitude are saved, which no man can number. This multitude will end up standing before the Throne of God, arrayed in white robes. I believe they will wear those robes as guests invited to the Marriage supper of the Lamb, as seen in Revelation 19. This study should do two things; firstly, remind you of God’s great mercy, not willing that any should perish. Secondly, this should highlight the privilege of receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour this side of the Rapture. Those who come to Christ after, those who make up the great multitude seen in this chapter, will be saved by the blood of the Lamb, but will not have the position and blessings afforded to the Church, the Bride of Christ. May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word! In the previous session we saw a glimpse of Heaven as John is ‘caught up‘ and told “Come up here and see the things which must be ‘after these things’” – literally, things that are to occur after the church age. John is then ‘immediately’ – in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye – before the throne in Heaven and sees the One sat upon the throne. Chapter 4 describes the brilliance of this scene as being like pure Jasper, yet at the same time blood red – suggestive of the impending wrath to be poured out upon this unbelieving and Christ rejecting world. John was not the first to see this incredible scene, for we learn from 2 Corinthians 12:4 that Paul was also caught up to Heaven. However Paul simply says that what he saw ‘it wouldn’t be right to utter’ – in other words, it was so wonderful that any attempt to put it into words would not do it justice! So we have to be grateful that this ‘Revelation’ was given to John and not Paul, for at least John tries to convey what he got to see! Paul does at least say that God dwells in such a magnificent clothing of light that ‘no man can approach’! (see 1 Timothy 6:16). As John’s eyes seem to be adjusting from the sheer brilliance of all he is looking at, he becomes aware of the most awesome sight in time and eternity! – a Lamb bearing the marks of slaughter. As well as the audio, PDF PowerPoint slides used in the study are available for download. To encourage you to study this chapter in more detail there is a verse-by-verse text commentary in the Pastor’s blog section of this website.
Chapter 19 1-14

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 12th June 2016 is the 20th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. Chapter 19 of the Book of Revelation arguably details the most anticipated event in all of history. The Second Coming of Jesus Christ. For every prophecy in the Bible concerning Jesus’ first coming, there are eight that speak of His second coming! In fact, the very first prophecy in the Bible uttered by a prophet is a prophecy about Jesus’ second coming. It was by Enoch, and is recorded in the book of Jude: “And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him” (Jude 14-15). This gives a good summary of one of the key aspects of the Second Coming, namely the judgment on this unbelieving world. Throughout scripture there are actually three distinct reasons given for the second coming: To deliver Israel in the midst of her darkest hour To judge the ungodly nations of this world that have survived the Great Tribulation To re-establish the throne the throne of David In this study we look at the rejoicing in Heaven following the destruction of the false religious system that we saw in chapter 17 & 18 (verses 1-5). This is then followed by the announcement that Christ’s wedding day has arrived! Weddings are almost always a great time of celebration, but this is the ultimate wedding, for the Groom’s Father has speared no expense! In fact, marriage itself only exists for this reason, for Christ to be joined to His bride. Paul tells us this much in Ephesians chapter 5. It appears that the saints who were delivered out of the Tribulation (albeit as martyrs) are the ones who give the announcement that everything is now ready, and there is the reminder that those invited to the wedding as guests are indeed very blessed. But just stop for a moment! For if you are a Christian now, you are not to be a wedding guest, for you are part of the bride! It is you whom Christ died for and shed His blood that you might be presented to Him, without spot or blemish! The chapter then moves on and we begin to look at the return of Christ, accompanied by His bride. May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word!
Chapter 7

Chapter 17

<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 29th May 2016 is the 18th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. This is possibly one of the most important chapters in the Bible in regard to our understanding of history; and also explains why there are so many false religions in the world. Sadly this does not get taught and is replaced by misinformation, deliberate deceit and outright lies. However, anyone interested in the truth does not have to dig far to uncover some startling information that will change the way we look at the world. On one level, this chapter is not as difficult as it may first appear. As with many portions of scripture, particularly prophecy, the answers and explanations for the symbols and imagery used are clearly explained in the verses that follow. Remember that this was all new to John as well, but the purpose of allowing John to see these things was not to confuse him but to show him “things which must shortly come to pass” (Rev 1:1). God is not the author of confusion (1 Cor 14:33). It is advisable to read the whole chapter before looking at each verse on its own. In this chapter we will find some key characters, some of whom we have already met, which will make the task of identifying them much easier. Great Whore / Scarlet Beast / Seven heads / Seven mountains / Ten horns / Ten kings Identifying what the Great Whore is, is not too difficult if we simply stick to what the scripture reveals and allow that to guide us. The question that is still open to much debate, even amongst some of the best Bible scholars is, who she is; i.e. can we put a name to the face? I believe, because of the information we are given in chapters 17 & 18, that we can identify her. Not only that, but once we do, it sheds light on the times we are living in and helps us to understand why seven times in Matthew 24 Jesus warned of great deception in the last days. May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word!
Chapter 12

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>We read in the book of Job that when God made the heavens and the earth all the angels sang for joy (Job 38:7). If all means all, Lucifer must have been among them, and in all probability was actually the one leading the praise to God! As the angels looked on, the Earth and Universe God was creating must has seemed truly breathtaking! As God caused the Light to shine on Day 1, separated the land and the sea on Day 2, and then caused trees, plants, vegetation and fruit to appear all over the earth on Day 3, the excitement must have been building among the angels, wondering what God was going to do next, and what was it all for? As God flung galaxies out into space on Day 4, and then caused living creatures to appear in the oceans and birds to fly in the sky on Day 5. Then on Day 6 God created lions, elephants, dinosaurs, squirrels, sloths, bears, penguins and so much more! God’s new creation was indeed very good! You can almost hear the angels whispering among themselves, “This is amazing! I wonder who it is for? Who will be given the job of ruling over all of this wonderful creation?” No doubt some eyes had started to look toward Lucifer; after all, he was already God’s right-hand-angel! Lucifer himself had also started to wonder! “To whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself?” (Esther 6:6). But then, with what was probably the biggest metaphorical bombshell in all eternity, God creates Man! But the real wonder was not man was fearfully and wonderfully made, but that God created him in His own image! There was not a creature in the heavens or the earth that could compare! But this led to one inescapable conclusion. Lucifer was no longer the pinnacle of God’s creation, and it quickly became clear that this stunning new world that God had just spent the last 5 days creating, was to be given to Man!! At that moment, something happened that seemed utterly impossible; it was something so catastrophic that it would later require an unimaginable price to be paid to remedy the situation, and even then would leave a tragic scar on the whole of eternity. Lucifer – the light bearer – rebelled against God! Isaiah 14:12-15 records that Lucifer, already overflowing with envy and hatred for the Man who had been created in God’s image, said in his heart “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the [angels] of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High” (Isaiah 14:13-14). Lucifer had not been created ‘like the Most High’ but Adam had. So if he had not been given it, he would take it by force! He would take the wonderful earth he thought he rightfully deserved, destroying this Man in the process! Then he would be exulted and the other angels would worship him! Lucifer’s nature changed in an instant, his name effectively changed to Satan which means ‘opponent’, for he had become not God’s opponent but Man’s. As we will see in this study of Revelation ch 12, Satan took one third of the angels with him when he rebelled against God, and for the last 6000 years of human history he has been hell-bent on one thing: the destruction of man by whatever means possible. But the man he was most intent on destroying was not the first Adam, but the Second Adam – Jesus Christ. For from Genesis 3:15, where God pronounces his judgment falling the Fall, Satan knew he had begun to fall, and that he shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him. In essence, the whole account of the Old Testament is the story of how God engineered and ensured the safe arrival of the Second Adam – the Seed of the Woman, and how Satan – the Dragon – desperately tried to prevent it!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 31st January 2016 is the 5th in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. In this study we look at the letters Jesus sent to the churches at Pergamos and Thyatira. As well as having local applications, personal encouragement and admonition, these letters take us prophetically from around 300 A.D. up to the end of the ‘dark ages’. We note the tragic shift in the church when it went from a persecuted church to a political powerful church – just as in the Matthew 13 parable of the Mustard Seed, that became something it was never meant to have been. As well as the audio, PDF PowerPoint slides used in the study are available for download.
Chapter 22

 <itunes:subtitle>Pastor Barry Forder</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 17th July 2016 is the conclusion of our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. In Revelation 21:6 the ‘One sat upon the throne’ declared “it is done!” God’s plan from before the foundation of the world is completed. This is summarised in Ephesians 1:9-10, where Paul states: “Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him” (Eph 1:9-10). My paraphrase of this verse is that the mystery once hidden, has now been revealed, and it is this: that when everything is said and done, God will gather together into one all the believing Jews and believing Gentiles, whether rich, poor, masters & servants, male and female; all gathered together without distinction in Christ. As He hold the universe together by the world of His power, so He will unite all of redeemed humanity, forever to be His people and He to be their God! In Ephesians 2 Paul reminds us of our past, that we were dead in trespasses and sins, that we had fallen short of God’s perfect standard, that we were destined for God’s righteous judgment and wrath, “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus” (Eph 2:4-7). It is these ‘ages to come’ that we are given a glimpse of in the closing chapters of Revelation. In the chapter 21 we are introduced to this incredible city, prepared and beautified like a bride on her wedding day. This city is to be the eternal home of the redeemed. In this session we will continue the tour of our new home, and then conclude not just the book of Revelation, but the whole of God’s revealed Word to man in the Bible with the marvelous declaration that way to life is open to whomsoever would come, with the promise “Surely I come quickly”! May this study encourage you and deepen your love for God and His Word!

Chapter 20 1-6

<itunes:summary>This study, taught by pastor Barry Forder at our Sunday morning service on Sunday 26th June 2016 is the 22nd in our verse-by-verse study through the book of Revelation. As we move into chapter 20 we meet what is referred to as the ‘millennium’. The word ‘millennium’ comes from the Latin words ‘mille’ meaning a ‘thousand’ and ‘annum’ meaning ‘years’. In this study we look at the millennium and try to understand a little about this period of time from what the Bible reveals. In verse 6 of this chapter we read, “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years”. Thus, on the surface at least, this would seem to indicate that when Christ returns to sit on the Throne of David (Luke 1:32 / 1 Cor 15:25 / 2 Sam 7:16 / Daniel 2:44 / Dan 7:27 / Ezek 37:21-22) He will then reign on Earth for a period of 1000 years. To someone reading the Bible for the first time, it is unlikely they would interpret the four clear references in this chapter to 1000 years as meaning anything other than a literal period of 1000 years. However, as we note in this study, there are a number of different ‘interpretations’ that suggest these events are not literal, but should rather be understood as being symbolic. This immediate problem is that this view ignores the opening words of the book, where it is stated: “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John” (Rev 1:1) There is no implication found anywhere in the book that these things are merely given to illustrate spiritual truths, depicting a struggle between good and evil; nor is this position consistent with the rest of the Bible. In Matthew 24 when Jesus was asked about the events preceding His return, He answered plainly and simply, and as we have seen, He then summerised the key events that are later expanded upon in the book of Revelation. It should also be stated that the Old Testament prophecies, which in many respects became the hope of the nation of Israel, can’t just be put to one side because either. That being the case, one might well ask why the allegorical approach gained any momentum at all, let alone be the principle view taught in most seminaries today. We will explore the roots of this in a while, but at the end of the day we ultimately come back to the same question: Is this chapter (and indeed this book) meant to be understood as unfolding literal events that will take place, or should it be seen as symbolic? [and if so, symbolic of what?]. In essence, either God through His Word has revealed there will be a period of 1000 years when Christ will reign following His Second Coming, or this is just picture language, symbols designed to illustrate some other point. If the latter is true, the question has to be asked, what point is being made?, and who is it that decides how to interpret what we read?, (if what we read does in fact not actually mean what the surface text says?!) May this study challenge you and stir you to go and tell others of God’s mighty kindness and love! Every blessing, Pastor Barry.</itunes:summary>
